Artist’s Resale Right

The Artist’s Resale Right provides a means for qualifying works of an EU nationality artist to attract a royalty payment each time their work is resold through a professional intermediary for €1,000 or more.

From 1 January 2012, the Artist’s Resale Right was extended to cover deceased artists’ works which are still in copyright, in the UK up to 70 years after their death, and are resold.

There is a sliding scale for resale royalty calculations which starts at 4% of the price (ex VAT) of works sold for up to €50,000.

The management organisation for Artists’ Rights is The Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS), 33 Old Bethnal Green Road, London E2 6AA. Telephone: +44 (0)20 7336 8811.

Please visit the DACS website for full information: http://www.dacs.org.uk/home.
